Wedding Crashers: Comedy at Its Finest

With every comedy release, the critic world is buzzing. It is never a polite buzz however as most comedies coming out year after year end up on the back end of the DVD shelf with no visitors in sight. However, once in a while a director will hit it big. Sparks will fly, and the people will be saying “This is a fantastic movie.” After sitting through hours of laughter, entertainment and laughs that filled the movie theatre I realized, this movie was it. The comedy of the year is as good a title for the movie “Wedding Crashers” as a critic could come up with.

The brisk comedy starts off with two divorce mediators, Joe Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) settling a hilarious divorce dispute. The introduction to the movie is a little puzzling as their profession plays little significance in the movie, yet the hilarious scene is due for laughs either way. From there on the actual wedding crashing occurs. The two life-long friends have unique abilities to crash any wedding they set their hearts to. From Jewish, to Irish, to Chinese, the two crashers always find a way to get themselves invited to the event of the hour. While making back stories in order to explain who they are and why they’re there, the two friends make themselves the life of the party while always reminding each other of the many laughable rules of wedding crashing. Capturing hearts of ladies who are aroused by the spirit of weddings is the main game of the two and, as you will see, they always succeed in style. After mini clips from many different weddings the two have crashed and some flashes of the outcomes, the “feature wedding”, so to speak, occurs.

A cleverly masterful plan nets our two guests a seat in this wedding of the daughter of the Treasury Secretary William Cleary (Christopher Walken). John and Jeremy quickly become acquainted with the guests and both set their eyes on the other two daughters, Claire (Rachel McAdams) and Gloria (Isla Fisher). While Jeremy can’t seem to get Claire off of him, Joe has his conversation with Gloria interrupted by her Ivy League boyfriend Zack (Bradley Cooper). Joe convinces Jeremy to bend the wedding crasher rules and travel to the extended weekend party with the family in order to capture Gloria’s heart. While on the getaway the two friends endure some comical scenes from football injuries to Jeremy’s girlfriend Claire becoming a five-star-clinger. In the end Joe falls madly in love with Gloria yet does not know whether to tell her the truth about him or let the story unfold.

Wedding Crashers is hands down the comedy of the year. The characters and plot were set perfectly for this type of movie and the audience endures laughs throughout the comical scenes. Wedding crashers falls short of perfection simply because it losses steam by the end and gets a little too romantic for the common comedy lover. A solid 8/10 score will surely satisfy any movie viewer give Wedding Crashers a try. Although the Wedding Crashers pretty much crashes itself, it still has the perfect quotes and scenes to keep you entertained for weeks to come. Out of all the movies I have seen this summer, Wedding Crasher definitely has my “Top 5 Must See Movie” Tag on the front.
