VoIP Explained

What is VoIP?

VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is the latest technology used for making telephone calls over the Internet. Using a VoIP Service means that you can make cheap calls anywhere through a fast Internet connection.

To get started you will need some VoIP Hardware such as an IP Phone, a VoIP Adaptor or a VoIP ADSL Router.
You can call anyone through the VoIP service, they don’t have to have a VoIP phone or an Internet connection, but if they do use a VoIP Service, your calls to them will be free.

VoIP Phones

An IP telephone connects to your LAN or Broadband (ADSL) router via a standard RJ-45 connection and enables you to enjoy the benefits of VoIP straight away.
You can make free calls to other IP phone users, as well as taking advantage of our VoIPtalk SIP User package, which provides you with the following features:

• FREE Internet calls between IP phone users
• Your very own incoming telephone number
• IP-to-PSTN service enabling you to call national and international destinations at low rates.

First off, you will require some type of VoIP Hardware. This can be:

- An IP Telephone

- A VoIP Adaptor (to plug your analogue phone into)

- A VoIP ADSL Router

All of the products that can be used are available to buy online at www.voiptalk.org
If you are planning to use Asterisk for your VoIP services, take a look at our Asterisk PBX service.
