Ballet Blues
The ballet class had just finished, and thank God. My toes were all bloody open festering blisters. Outside the hot sun was shining and there was a huge gorgeous tree just over the grass about 50 meters. I gingerly took off my pointe shoes to feel the cool grass under my weary feet, not realizing that ½ hour before, the camp gardener had done his job by spreading dandelion poison and fertilizer all over the grounds.

Rock ‘n’ Roll dance is no sinking ship but in South Australia at least, it could be headed for a watery grave. Publican after publican has lost patience with the ‘dancing crowd’ due to their drinking habits. It isn’t that Rock ‘n’ Rollers drink too much, its the opposite problem. They drink too little! In Adelaide we are fortunate to have quite a few public bars with dance floors featuring Rock ‘n’ Roll bands and no cover charge. But if we don’t drink, how does a venue operator make profits?

The Hula dance is associated with Hawaii and luaus and while everyone knows what the hula is very few people are actually knowledgeable of its origin, not even the Hawaiians. According to Hawaiian history there is no information available as to who performed the first hula dance or why, however it is a common agreement that the original hula dance was performed by a god or goddess, making the dance sacred to Hawaiians. And this dance is sacred to men and women in Hawaii because the hula was danced by both sexes despite some information stating only men danced the hula. This information is incorrect and actually men and women both were involved in the sacred hula dance.
